Archery Hunts

Although the State of Texas offers a bow-only season during the month of October, we do not hunt during that time. Historically, the bow hunts are not very productive in October for several reasons. First, the weather is often hot and oppressive. The deer do not move around nearly as much as they do during the latter part of the season. Secondly, the acorns drop right around late September and early October. As a result, we do not have the normal animal activity around the feed areas as we do during the gun season. Therefore, we only offer bow hunts during the rifle season. The hunts are conducted over prime feed areas in ground blinds and platform stands. 100% opportunity is expected.

Rifle Hunts

Outback Ranch

This season Gun's & Ammo TV will be filming a hunt on the ranch with famous outdoor writer Craig Boddington, as well as a hunt for the winner of a sweepstakes being run by Primedia Publications, owner of 21 Outdoor Magazine titles. The Outback Ranch is a beautiful 12,000 acre ranch with a first class lodge and airstrip. Amenities include a huge fireplace, bar, tv, phone and internet service. This ranch has an outstanding population of free-ranging Whitetails as a result of an 11 year feed and habitat improvement program. Over the last few years we harvested a 14 pt. that scored 168 B&C and another buck that had 11 points with a 26" spread. We also have a picture of a 17-point 180" class buck that had locked horns with a 10-point buck whose horns we cut and released the deer. A photo of the 17-point buck can be seen below. During the hunt you may also harvest free-ranging exotics, Rio Grande Turkey and mature management bucks. Prices for these animals will be quoted at the time of your hunt. Hunters fly to San Antonio International airport, rent a car and drive to the ranch.

Texas Outfitters Monster Whitetail Hunt

This hunt is being done at the Drop Tine Ranch located in Frio County, approximately 50 minutes from San Antonio. The largest bucks taken in Texas every year come out of this county. Over the last 2 years the top 3 bucks in the two major categories of the Loz Cazadores Big Buck Contest were taken within 5 miles of the ranch, and all scored over 200 B&C points with the largest being 224 B&C. Trophy Management Buck Hunts

We are proud to offer trophy management buck hunts on two of the premier ranches in Texas. The Outback Ranch, located in Edwards County, and The DropTine Ranch located in Frio County. Both ranches have been intensively managed for whitetails for many years and are producing some of the best whitetails in the state.

The most frequently asked question every potential hunter asks is what is a management buck. Simply put, it is a mature whitetail buck that is 5 years old or older that a hunter on these two ranches on a trophy hunt is typically going to pass up as they are paying 2-3 times the price of a management hunt. Now many of these bucks are just border-line but 90% of the deer hunting population would shoot these bucks anywhere else in the country. The pictures in our management buck brochure and in the Management Buck Photo Gallery of our web site will give you a good idea of what we will be hunting. These hunts are 1 on 1 with your guide pointing out which bucks you may harvest. We do not guarantee scores but do guarantee you will shoot a Texas Outfitters Trophy Management Buck!

Hunts

Season starts the first Saturday in October and runs through the third Sunday in January.
License is $300.
Hunts are 4 days with the hunter arriving in the afternoon on Day 1 and leaving by noon on Day 4.
